Sowing Possibility, Nurturing Ability!
At The Olive Shoot, Early Intervention is at the heart of our approach. We support children across a wide range of developmental areas to help them thrive in their everyday environments.
Social skills are essential for communicating and interacting with others. These include both verbal communication (using words) and non-verbal communication (such as gestures, facial expressions, and body language). Developing strong social skills helps children engage in conversations, build friendships, resolve conflicts, and form meaningful connections.
Emotional regulation involves recognising, understanding, and managing oneβs emotions. Children learn to tune into their internal body signals, identify how different emotions feel, and express them in ways that are comfortable and meaningful. Strengthening this skill helps children build self-awareness, cope with challenges, and seek calming strategies when needed.
Fine motor skills involve the coordination of small muscles in the hands, fingers, and wrists. These skills are essential for daily tasks like writing, dressing, eating, and using tools or toys. Developing fine motor control supports independence and confidence in everyday routines.
Gross motor skills require the use of larger muscles to support whole-body movementβsuch as walking, running, jumping, and climbing. These skills also play a role in posture, core strength, and coordination for table-top tasks, self-care activities, and playground or sporting involvement.
Executive functioning includes important mental skills such as working memory, self-control, and flexible thinking. These skills help children stay focused, manage their emotions, follow instructions, and organise themselves through day-to-day routines and learning tasks.
School readiness refers to the knowledge, skills, and behaviours that support a smooth transition into Kindergarten. This includes a childβs ability to follow routines, manage emotions, interact with peers, and engage in classroom activities. We help build these foundational skills to support a confident start to school life.
Some children experience challenges in how they process sensory inputβincluding sights, sounds, smells, touch, and movement. At The Olive Shoot, we help identify and manage individual sensory needs and preferences to support comfort, regulation, and participation across different settings, whether at home, in the community, or in school.
