What is our approach?

The Olive Shoot places emphasis on the following key approaches to service delivery:

• Culturally responsive - Coralie values individual differences and recognises that there are multiple ways of viewing the world. She will seek to gain an understanding of her client's background and belief system to ensure that therapy is delivered in a culturally sensitive and appropriate way.

• Strength-based - Every child possesses unique strengths and his/her disposition to learning is demonstrated in various ways. Coralie will draw on her client's talents, capabilities, interests and skills in order to create meaningful and motivating learning experiences.

• Family-centred - Coralie strongly believes that parents/caregivers know their children best. As such, she will work in partnership with her client's family members to understand their unique values and circumstances and ensure that services are personalised, flexible and appropriate for the family dynamic. 

• Play-based - A child's main occupation is to play. With this consideration, Coralie will use play as an avenue to gain insight into her client's functional abilities and to reinforce their social, emotional and cognitive skills.

• Capacity-building - Therapy will aim to build upon a family's pre-existing knowledge and skills, and increase their capacity to take meaningful actions towards supporting the growth of their child. This may consist of the provision of information, guidance, and resources to assist the family/carers to best support their child.
